Janneke Niessen awarded Ernst&Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Improve Digital co-founder and CIO, Janneke Niessen, recognized for her creativity, innovation, and leadership.
Janneke Niessen received the award for EY Entrepreneur of the Year. This is the latest in a long list of honours for Improve Digital and its co-founders, Janneke Niessen and Joelle Frijters, with recognition in past years including Deloitte Fast 50, Deloitte Rising Star, Red Herring 100, Emerce European Startup top 10, The Next Women Top 100 most influential business women.
The Entrepreneur of the Year award is the most prestigious election in the world for successful entrepreneurs. It is awarded in over fifty countries worldwide, and this is its 19th year in the Netherlands. The EY election is meant to reward successful entrepreneurship and to inspire and motivate others by highlighting the winning entrepreneurs’ vision, passion, conviction, and excellent leadership.
“Good entrepreneurs are the trendsetters of the economy and [are key contributors] to innovation, job creation and prosperity. We congratulate the winners and all the finalists and thank them for their participation,” stated Andrea Vogel, Program Director EY Entrepreneur of the Year.
Janneke Niessen received the award for EY Entrepreneur of the Year at a private ceremony on 4 October. The award was presented by Hans Biesheuvel, founder ONL and jury chairman EY Entrepreneur Of The Year. She distinguished herself to the jury by demonstrating an innovative international growth path and scoring highly as an entrepreneur and a leader. Her creativity, innovation, focus, and commitment to developing the right team were important drivers that led to this award.

Janneke is Chief Innovation Officer and co-founder of Improve Digital. She is the driving force behind the company’s 360 Platform for real-time advertising. She is co-founder of the Inspiring fifty, mentor at Startup Bootcamp, angel investor, board member, and regularly speaks at events about digital media and entrepreneurship.
She started her career over 15 years ago as media director at the first Dutch online media agency. Janneke was later co-founder DQ&A – an ad operations company with a global footprint. She is both an author of and contributor to several books about online media and has lectured on the subject at Amsterdam and Leuven universities; and she has been chairperson of the taskforce automated trading of IAB and board member at IAB Europe.
Janneke and her Improve co-founder, Joelle Frijters, also recently launched Inspiring Fifty, a pan-European programme that identifies, encourages, develops and showcases women in leadership positions within the technology sector. As part of the Inspiring Fifty initiative, Janneke is developing the first in a series of novels for children and young adults, together with an award winning child book’s author, to encourage young girls to work in technology.
