Joelle is CEO and co-founder of Improve Digital, co-initiator of Inspiring fifty and mentor for startups.
She started the company having been a director at Microsoft Media Networks (NNM) EMEA, where she launched and oversaw Microsoft’s private ad network and solved the issue of the company’s unsold inventory. Prior to Microsoft, with support from Nickelodeon and Isobar, Joelle initiated one of the first social media start-ups, which was later sold to media giant, Sanoma.
She worked at the head office of KLM Airlines, where she gained her first experience in yield management. Both Joelle and Improve Digital have won and have been nominated for several awards including Deloitte Fast 50, Deloitte Rising Star, Red Herring 100, Emerce European Startup top 10, The Next Women Top 100 most influential business women.
Janneke is Chief Innovation Officer and co-founder of Improve Digital. She is the driving force behind the company’s 360 Platform.
In her industry, Janneke is a sought-after speaker and thought leader, regularly appearing at events to discuss entrepreneurship and digital marketing; and she is an active board and committee participant with industry trade associations such as the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau). She started her career 15 years ago as online media director at the first Dutch online media agency. Janneke went on to co-found DQ&A – an ad operations company with worldwide offices.
Janneke was recently named 2014 EY Entrepreneur of the Year. This is the latest in a long list of honours, both Janneke and Improve Digital have won and have been nominated for several awards including Deloitte Fast 50, Deloitte Rising Star, Red Herring 100, Leading Online Entrepreneur of the Year, Online Media Women of the Year, Emerce European Startup top 10, The Next Women Top 100 most influential business women. Janneke is also co-initiator of InspiringFifty (www.inspiringfifty.com), a pan-European programme that identifies, encourages, develops, and showcases women in leadership positions within the technology sector.
At a personal level, she is a strong and vocal advocate for greater computer science and entrepreneurship education, beginning as early as the elementary school years. More broadly, she is an active voice in the Netherlands and across the EU, helping to highlight national and regional market strengths and reinforce their importance within the global technology landscape. Janneke’s true passion is in advancing technology, with a primary goal of fostering innovation today and in the future.
